Attention Residents !

Bonita Lakes is UNDER ATTACK !!!

Whitefly bugs have infested the entire community.  The Association sprayed the common area trees and shrubbery which is what the documents require it to do, and most of the common areas are clear of it.  The problem is that once the common areas were sprayed, the flies left those trees and shrubs and have take up residence on the trees and shrubs on homeowners property.  The association documents do not require that the association spray the homeowners trees or shrubs, only the grassy areas for typical chinch bugs and grub worms.  Your webmaster toured the property on Saturday 8-13 and found many many homes with infestations on the palms, gutters, facia board wood on the home and other areas.  Below find photos of the kind of infestation you will see on your own property.  Check palms carefully, as well as ficus hedges, these are favorites of the whitefly.  One of the side effects is sooty mold which grows as a consequence of the whitefly infestation, the darkening of leaves and trunks indicates sooty mold.

IMMEDIATELY, using your garden hoze, spray all leaves vigousously to knock off the egg clusters and the effluent from the bugs.  You can apply a SAFE insecticide soap product which you can buy at Home Depot with a hose end sprayer or a pump garden sprayer.  Apply it weekly until the bugs are gone. Use your hose and knock the egg clusters off your house walls, soffits, facia boards and gutters.

There is a home made concoctions you can look up on the internet which work, most use ivory soap, various hot oils, garlic.

Whitefly disease can and will KILL YOUR TREES if you don't take affirmative action, right now.
